Choosing an undermount kitchen sink
An undermount sink is fitted beneath the benchtop rather than sitting on top of it, so there's no rim to catch crumbs and you can wipe straight from the bench into the bowl. Undermount installation generally suits solid benchtops such as stone, so check with your benchtop fabricator. Many sinks in our range can also be installed topmount (overmount), so check the installation options on each product.
Materials
Stainless steel is the classic choice. The Fienza Hana 32L is hand made from 1.2mm thick 304 stainless steel and suits topmount or undermount installation, and selected Hana sinks are also offered in PVD Carbon Metal or PVD Rugged Brass finishes. The Arcko Lux BKR54 is 1.2mm 304 stainless steel with R10 radius corners for easy cleaning, and comes with an undermount/overmount kit and designer basket waste. For a stone look, Artusi Granitek sinks are made from granite and acrylic resin and are designed to resist heat, impacts and scratches.
Size and layout
Fienza Hana single bowls come in 27, 32 and 40 litre sizes, plus a double bowl with sound dampening. Artusi offers a compact bar sink for wet bars, butler's pantries or small laundries, and a single bowl with drainer. The Seima Tetra 1150 Blade undermount/overmount sink has no tap landing, so plan your tap position on the benchtop.
- Cabinet size: confirm the sink's overall dimensions fit your base cabinet, with room for fixing clips.
- Tap position: with an undermount sink the tap is usually mounted on the benchtop. Pair your sink with one of our kitchen mixer taps.
- Bowl configuration: a double bowl lets you wash and rinse at once; a large single bowl fits big pots and trays.
- Waste and accessories: check whether a basket waste and fixing kit are included.
- Installation: have the benchtop cut-out made to the manufacturer's template, and the waste and water connections done by a licensed plumber.
