Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration Systems

Get purified drinking water on tap with a Puretec reverse osmosis system. The under-sink RO270 reduces up to 96% of dissolved impurities, including fluoride and nitrate. We also stock the ROS2700 continuous flow system, the CO-RO270P and high-flow CO-RO4 for commercial and beverage use, and RO storage tanks.

Choosing a reverse osmosis water filter

Reverse osmosis (RO) forces water through an ultra-fine membrane that rejects impurities and flushes them to drain. Puretec states its RO270 system reduces up to 96% of dissolved impurities, heavy metals, salts, viruses, bacteria, cysts, fluoride, nitrate, chlorine, taste, odour and chemicals.

When to choose reverse osmosis

Puretec describes reverse osmosis as the only sure way to reduce fluoride long term, and lists the RO270 as a point-of-use option for nitrate, one of the most common groundwater contaminants in rural areas. For PFAS ("forever chemicals"), Puretec's top recommendation is a FilterWall F5 whole house system paired with the RO270, while noting it is still in the early stages of third-party testing and recommending independent water testing. For bore water, Puretec recommends a water test first so the right pre-treatment can be specified.

Home and commercial systems

The Puretec RO270 is an under-sink RO system with a high loop designer tap and integrated flushing to prevent bacteria build-up. The ROS2700 is a continuous flow RO system. For higher demand, the CO-RO4 is a high-flow system with re-mineralisation and a modular filter design, aimed at beverage and commercial applications. The CO-RO270P includes a pump and is supplied without a tank; if your set-up needs storage, the RA-T4.2 is a pressurised 4.2-gallon RO tank compatible with most under-sink RO systems.

  • Space: allow room under the sink for the filter housings, membrane and any storage tank.
  • Drain connection: RO systems flush rejected impurities to drain, so a drain connection is needed.
  • Taste and minerals: because RO reduces dissolved minerals along with impurities, some people add a remineralising cartridge. Puretec's IL146Q adds calcium carbonate to improve taste and lift pH to neutral.
  • Maintenance: pre-filters and membranes need periodic replacement, so check the cost of replacement cartridges.
  • Installation: connection to the water supply and drain must be done by a licensed plumber. Pumped systems also need power; any new power point must be installed by a licensed electrician.

Frequently asked questions

What does a reverse osmosis system remove?

Puretec states its RO270 reverse osmosis system reduces up to 96% of dissolved impurities, heavy metals, salts, viruses, bacteria, cysts, fluoride, nitrate, chlorine, taste, odour and chemicals. The ultra-fine membrane rejects impurities and flushes them to drain, leaving purified water at the tap for drinking and cooking.

Does reverse osmosis remove fluoride?

Reverse osmosis reduces fluoride. Puretec states the RO270 reduces fluoride by up to 96%, and describes reverse osmosis as the only sure way to reduce fluoride from your water supply long term. Many standard filters aren't designed for fluoride; some, such as the Puretec TW1, are specifically listed as not removing it.

Does reverse osmosis remove PFAS (forever chemicals)?

Puretec states a reverse osmosis membrane provides even greater PFAS reduction than carbon filtration, and recommends pairing a FilterWall F5 whole house system with the RO270 for the best coverage. Puretec notes it is in the early stages of third-party testing and doesn't yet have exact reduction rates, and recommends having your water independently tested for PFAS by an accredited laboratory.

Do reverse osmosis systems send water to drain?

Yes. Reverse osmosis works by rejecting impurities and flushing them to drain, so some water goes to drain as part of normal operation and a drain connection is needed at installation. The RO270 also uses integrated flushing to help prevent bacteria build-up. Check the product specifications, or contact us, for details on a particular system.

Can I add minerals back to reverse osmosis water?

Yes. Because reverse osmosis reduces dissolved minerals, some systems include a remineralising stage; the CO-RO4, for example, features re-mineralisation. Puretec's IL146Q inline mineraliser adds calcium carbonate to improve taste and lift pH to neutral, and the CO-R200 remineralising cartridge is designed for use after reverse osmosis.

Can I install a reverse osmosis system myself?

No. In Australia, connection to the water supply and drain must be done by a licensed plumber. Under-sink systems such as the RO270 also need room for the filter housings, membrane and storage tank, so measure your cupboard first. Pumped systems such as the CO-RO270P need power; any new power point must be installed by a licensed electrician.

Do you deliver reverse osmosis systems Australia-wide?
